About Us!

Our Story

The current A. H. & I. Society stems from multiple other short-lived Agricultural Societies of the same manner, beginning as early as 1880.

These included the ‘Picton Agricultural Society’, the ‘Picton and District Poultry, Pigeon, Cagebird, Horticultural, Garden and Industrial Society’, as well as neighbouring Show Societies such as Tahmoor and Camden.

Our first reformed Agricultural event was held in 1935 under a new committee formed in 1934, but it was not until after the 1935 Show that the Picton A. H & I. Society was accepted as a member into the South Coast and Southern Tablelands Agricultural, Horticultural, And Industrial Associated Union.

Our First affiliated Show was therefore held in 1936.

Since the reform, the Picton A. H. & I. Society has held the annual Picton Agricultural Show on our Showground and the adjacent Victoria Park (owned by Wollondilly Council) without fail for the last 79 years. The Show has certainly changed a lot over time, including the days of week on which the Show was held, and even the time of year.

Some stand out events held at the Show over the years include hunting events, milking contests, the old-fashioned Show Ball, Dog Shows, Trotting, Draft Horses, Cycling, Archery displays, Catch the Greasy Pig, Catch the Rooster, Bull Chariot Racing, and even Ferret Racing.

Today, Picton A. H. & I. Society holds multiple annual events, including Picton Show, Picton Rodeo, and our newest additions – Picton Swap Meet and the Music on the Meadow Festival. We are a small committee of local people who have the interests of our local residents, our ancestors and avid Agricultural Show attendees in mind.
